Frostbound by Sharon Ashwood

Frostbound (The Dark Forgotten, #4)Frostbound by Sharon Ashwood

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Talia comes home one evening to find her roommate/cousin dead on the living room floor. The police have a bad reputation of seeing a vampire near any murder scene and immediately deciding they're guilty. Talia knows that despite her innocence, the police will look no further than her fangs. With this in mind she decides to run. But, before she can even make it out of the apartment building, she's intercepted by the hellhound called Lore. Lore also knows that, if caught, Talia won't get a fair trial, but he's not entirely convinced of her innocence. Until he's positive of her guilt or innocence, Lore decides to keep Talia locked up in his own improvised prison. Eventually, they both have to work together to find out who is after Talia and who is going around killing supernatural beings.

Honestly, this book was a good time. I've mentioned before that I hate captive heroine stories, but this one was done right. Talia wasn't kept locked up for long and Lore caught a lot of shit from both her and his friends for doing it in the first place. There's not an overabundance of world building in the book, which is a relief, but also at times a little confusing. This, in large part, could be because I haven't read the other books in this series yet. However, Frostbound stands well on its own.

There were basically two things that really made this book for me. The first was the blizzard/winter setting. I love stories where winter plays a large part. I also really enjoyed the hellhound mythology that went into this book. You don't see it done very often and I have to say the hellhounds were pretty kickass.

I think fans of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series and Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series will find something to love in this book.

I read the first book in the series, but didn't feel the urge to pick up more.

However, her subsequent books have had more buzz. I know that the third book (I think is Unchained) won the RITA last year... I have Frostbound in my TBR pile and I think I'm going to give it another go :) Do you need to read the books in order in your opinion?

No, I don't think you need to read the books in order. This was the first book I picked up in the series and I was able to easily follow along.

I read the first book in the series a few days ago and it was alright. I don't think I'll read book 2 and 3 though.
